In an effort to keep growing and pushing myself, I decided to join a blog circle with a bunch of other photographers.  Each month we will have different topics to blog about.  We can take the theme and make it personal or we can use it to talk about our work.  The theme for this month was Summer and I just had to make this topic personal.

I’ve been trying to make a better effort to bring a camera along (other than my phone) to take pictures of my adventures with my family.  As you can imagine, I don’t always want to tote around my big girl camera but I do want to capture nicer pictures of my family.  Luckily, the camera that got me started into the photography world is a good little camera for this purpose.  My first DSLR camera was a Canon t3i and it’s a great one to start with.  This way I don’t have to worry about my big girl camera getting damaged by the sand from the beach or dropped on the ground.

We’ve had a fun summer so far!  Most of our family trips are actually happening in August but we’ve still had time for some weekend trips.  We’ve hit up Ocean City (NJ), lots of playgrounds and Sesame Place so far.  I try to make sure that I’m actually present in the moment with my kids so I don’t spend too much time holding my camera.  Just long enough to grab a few quick memories before I join in on the fun.  One thing that I am starting to accept with my own family photos.  The pictures don’t have to be technically perfect.  The focus might be soft, a limb might be cutoff….but as long as it makes me smile, then I know it’s a keeper!
